Zverev is still chasing his first Grand Slam title a good opening day outing will give the German the much-needed impetus. A two-time semi-finalist, the 27-year-old Monte Carlo resident is one of the favourites to win the season-opening Major.

Last January, he led Daniil Medvedev 2-0 in the semi-final but lost the next three sets, including two tie-breakers to suffer a 7-5, 6-3, 6(4)-7, 5(5)-7, 3-6. In the 2020 semi-final, he lost to Dominic Thiem in four sets 6-3, 4-6, 6(3)-7, 6(4)-7.

Pouille, also an Australian Open semi-finalist, was once touted as one of the rising stars. But with frequent injuries, the Rennes resident has so far struggled on the big stage. The 30-year-old is now looking to revive his career.

In the 2019 edition of the Australian Open, he reached the semi-finals only to suffer a straight-set defeat against eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Currently 104 in the ATP rankings, Lucas Pouille received a wild card for the 2025 edition.

Alexander Zverev and Lucas Pouille have met only once, in the 2019 Hopman Cup, and the former won 6-3, 6(8)-7, 6-2.
