Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz all advanced to round two on the second day of Australian Open 2025 at Melbourne Park on Monday (January 13). While all three were tested, Djokovic had the trickiest ride, dropping the opening set in his match against 19-year-old American wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy, before using his guile to push through 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 6-2. Meanwhile, Briton Jacob Fearnley marked his tournament debut with an impressive 7-6 (3), 6-3, 7-6 (2) victory over Australian Nick Kyrgios who was playing his first match at his home slam in three years. Stefanos Tsitsipas was the first big name to exit the season-opening Major, after a loss to Alex Michelsen in four sets.
