Defending champions Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek will return to protect their titles, with the latter going for her fifth crown on the Parisian clay courts.
Meanwhile, several stalwarts like Saint-Malo champion Naomi Osaka and 2022 French Open finalist Coco Gauff will make their returns this year.
With such a star-studded lineup for the singles and doubles event, Roland Garros is gearing up for another chapter in its rich history and legacy. Let라이브 바카라 have a look at five fascinating facts about the French Open 2025 that you might not have known earlier.
Contrary to what one might assume, the French Open was not named after any tennis legend, or even a player. The official name of the tournament, Roland Garros, is that of a pioneering French aviator. Garros was the first person to fly solo over the Mediterranean Sea and a World War I hero known for his innovations in aerial combat.
So, it makes sense that when in 1928, France had to build a new stadium to defend their Davis Cup title, they named it Stade Roland Garros, and the national tournament eventually played on the stadium picked up the pilot라이브 바카라 name.
For decades, the French Open stood out among other Grand Slam events for its absence of a final-set tie breaker, leading to long marathon matches that took a toll on players’ endurance levels.
This was finally corrected just three years ago in 2022, when a standardised 10-point tiebreaker was introduced for deciding sets tied at 6-all.
This is one of the less nicer parts of Roland Garros’ history, as it was, for some time, the only Grand Slam event where the men라이브 바카라 singles winner received a larger amount of prize money than their female counterpart.
That changed in 2007, when the French Open became the final Grand Slam to offer equal prize money to both men라이브 바카라 and women라이브 바카라 champions, as a direct result of advocacy from players like Venus Williams.
Yes, you read that right. The French Open, which currently is the only Grand Slam event played on clay, was once played on sand and grass courts. Long before it became synonymous with red clay, Roland Garros was played on a number of venues between its inception in 1891 and 1924.
It rotated between a stadium in Puteaux, where matches were held on sand courts laid over rubble, and another one in Paris, which initially featured grass courts before converting to clay. Some editions of the French Open were even played on wooden courts!
Again, you read that right. The longest match in French Open history actually spanned over two days. It was the French Open 2004 first-round match between Fabrice Santoro and Arnaud Clement.
Santoro was the winner in the match by 6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 3-6, 16-14, with the match lasting an incredible six hours and 33 minutes spread over two days. An even better fact: it라이브 바카라 just the fifth-longest match in tennis history!
