A United Kingdom lawmaker has sought specific measures to safeguard children and young adults from the dangerous effects of gambling-like content in video games. The member of parliament (MP) has warned that loot boxes may have a major impact, especially on children, who might not grasp the harmful nature of gambling behaviour. (More Sports News)
In a recent interview with the Leighton Buzzard Observer, British MP Alex Mayer spoke about the importance of the recently introduced legally mandated levy on gambling companies that seeks to help fund problem gambling treatment and research. “We now need further action to protect children from the harmful effects of gambling-like content in video games and relentless advertising,” the MP added.
The easy availability of online games due to smartphones and the growing popularity of loot boxes, which are part of such games, is the primary reason behind such concerns.
In the interview, Mayer spoke about the rising popularity of gambling-like content, which has become a part of the daily lives of children across the UK. Encouraging such gambling-like behaviour could lead to addiction later in life, the MP added.
The concerns are not limited to Britain alone. In India, too, the ministry of home Affairs (MHA) has reportedly started exploring the need for a new law to regulate online gaming, gambling, betting, and lotteries. According to a News18 report, the matter was recently discussed in a meeting at the home ministry by senior officials. The meeting was said to be attended by officials from various agencies, including the intelligence bureau.
“It has been decided that MHA라이브 바카라 Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) will prepare a report based on the discussions regarding the need for a new law to regulate online gaming, gambling, betting, and lotteries. Since these activities are expanding rapidly, a decision will be made once the report is submitted," the report quoted a senior government official as saying.
