Kangana Ranaut's movie Emergency which released in theatres on January 17, 2025, is all set to make its digital debut. The political drama will be released on OTT giant Netflix soon.
On Friday, Kangana Ranaut shared the news of Emergency's OTT release on Instagram Stories. The actress re-shared a post shared by her fans which featured Kangana and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a collage. The caption to the post read: "17th March releasing on @netflix."
Emergency was embroiled in controversies after several Sikh organisations across India, including in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, and other states, called for a ban on the film. They claimed that the film misrepresented their community and figures and distorted historical facts.
They approached the CBFC and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, demanding a ban on the film's screening. The controversies delayed the release of the film, which was earlier scheduled to hit the theatres on September 6.
Emergency, written by Ranaut and co-produced by Zee Studios and the actor's Manikarnika films, is based on the 21-month emergency period from 1975 to 1977, imposed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The film also features Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhary and the late Satish Kaushik.
