Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan got embroiled in controversy post its release. Despite the criticism, the action-political thriller went on to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. Empuraan finally entered the Rs 100 crore club in India, on the 12th day of its release.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Empuraan earned Rs 1.25 crore (early estimates) on Day 13, taking the domestic collection of the film to Rs 101.15 crore.

The day-wise earnings of the film witnessed a downward trend as it entered its second week. It collected Rs 3.85 crore on Sunday, Rs 1.55 crore on Monday, and Rs 1.25 crore on Tuesday.

It had an overall 15.32 percent Malayalam occupancy and 12.15 percent Tamil occupancy on Tuesday.

Empuraan's worldwide collection has crossed the Rs 260 crore mark.

It has grossed over Rs 80 crore, in Kerala alone, but yet to cross the collections of 2023 blockbuster 2018, which minted over Rs 88 crore in the state.

The makers announced the milestone on Instagram with the caption, "One of the elite few to cross 80 Cr+ in Kerala. History has a new chapter (sic)."

Empuraan has beaten the lifetime collections of Manjummel Boys in nine days. Empuraan grossed over Rs 250 crore worldwide, surpassing the lifetime total of Manjummel Boys (Rs 241 crore).

The film was voluntarily re-edited after the controversy. The re-edited version of Empuraan was released in theatres after 24 cuts. Reportedly, two minutes and eight seconds of footage were deleted after re-censoring.

It is backed by Antony Perumbavoor, Gokulam Gopalan, and Subaskaran, under Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions. Prithviraj Sukumaran has directed it. Apart from Mohanlal, the film also features Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran, in key roles.
