Delhi Launches India's First Lung Cancer Screening Programme

Revolutionizing early lung cancer detection, Delhi debuts India라이브 바카라 first Lunglife Screening Programme by ACC.

In a significant development for India라이브 바카라 healthcare sector, Apollo Cancer Centres (ACCs) launched the country라이브 바카라 very first Lunglife Screening Programme in the capital city of Delhi. This trailblazing initiative is specifically aimed at addressing the early detection of lung cancer, a disease that accounts for 5.9% of all cancers diagnosed in the country and 8.1% of cancer-related deaths. By prioritizing early diagnosis, the programme seeks to dramatically improve the survival rates of patients and enhance the effectiveness of treatments, according to a statement issued by ACC.

The screening programme has been meticulously designed to target individuals who are considered to be at the highest risk of developing lung cancer. These include people aged 50 to 80, particularly those with a history of smoking, individuals who have a family history of lung cancer, and asymptomatic people who may not currently show any outward signs of the disease. By focusing on these vulnerable groups, the programme aims to identify lung cancer at an early and more treatable stage.

The initiative features a detailed and comprehensive screening process. It includes consultations with pulmonologists, pulmonary function tests (PFT), and the use of advanced low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scans. These scans are specifically designed to detect the presence of lung cancer in its earliest stages while also ensuring that the radiation exposure to patients remains minimal, thereby prioritizing their overall safety and well-being.

Expert Insights on Early Detection

Dr Nikhil Modi, a senior consultant specializing in pulmonology at ACC, highlighted the importance of early detection in combating this deadly disease.

“Lung cancer continues to be one of the deadliest forms of cancer across the globe. However, identifying and diagnosing it in its early stages can significantly increase the chances of survival for patients. The Lunglife Screening Programme uses advanced low-dose CT technology, which not only ensures high diagnostic precision but also minimizes radiation exposure. This initiative brings renewed hope by making early-stage interventions a priority,” he explained.

Adding to this, Dr Manish Singhal, a senior consultant in medical oncology, elaborated on the programme's potential to transform outcomes for patients in India.
“This programme is a critical step in the fight against the increasing number of lung cancer cases. Detecting the disease early allows us to save lives and provide timely interventions with personalized care for every patient,” Dr Singhal stated.

Dr SVS Deo, the lead surgical oncology consultant at ACC, referred to lung cancer as a “silent killer” due to its often late diagnosis.
“Lung cancer is frequently detected only at an advanced stage when treatment options are limited. By combining precision diagnostics with patient-focused treatment, this programme offers the best chance for recovery and significantly improves survival rates,” he said.
