Biography
Sayani Gupta (pronounced Shayoni), born and raised in Kolkata, is a talented actress known for her work in both cinema and theatre. Growing up in a culturally vibrant city, she developed an early interest in the arts, deeply influenced by her father, Kamal Gupta, a musician, singer, composer, and lyricist who played a pivotal role in bringing FM Radio to India through All India Radio.
Sayani trained in Bharatanatyam for 17 years under renowned Gurus like Thankamani Kutti and was actively involved in theatre, performing with the Nandikar group and working with theatre veterans like MK Raina. After completing her education at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, she briefly worked in marketing before pursuing her true passion for acting.
She went on to pursue formal training at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, where she specialized in acting. Following her training, she moved to Mumbai in 2011 to chase her dreams in cinema and theatre.
Sayani made her acting debut in Second Marriage Dot Com (2012) and quickly gained recognition for her performances in socially and emotionally impactful films such as Margarita with a Straw (2015), Fan (2016), and Article 15 (2019). Her versatility extends to web series like Four More Shots Please!, where she portrays Damini Rizvi-Roy, a character that has resonated with a global audience.
Now residing in Mumbai, Sayani continues to be a prominent figure in Indian cinema, celebrated for her fearless choice of roles and commitment to meaningful storytelling.
