Sparking a political row amid the strained ties with India since 2024, Muhammad Yunus, the current chief adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, reportedly made a pitch to Beijing during his four-day China visit that surprisingly included India's seven northeastern states.

According to PTI, Yunus urged Xi Jinping-led China to extend its economic influence to Bangladesh, controversially mentioning that India라이브 바카라 northeastern states being landlocked could prove to be an opportunity.

The Bangladesh leader's remarks raised many eyebrows as the growing influence of China on Bangladesh is considered a concern to India as the Bangladesh is of strategic importance to India.

The video of Yunus referring to seven Indian states was posted by Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi라이브 바카라 economy advisory council on X.

“Interesting that Yunus is making a public appeal to the Chinese on the basis that 7 states in India are land-locked. China is welcome to invest in Bangladesh, but what exactly is the significance of 7 Indian states being landlocked?” he said.

What Did Yunus Say?

Yunus during his visit to China met President Jinping and was heard saying, “The seven states of India, the eastern part of India, are called the seven sisters. They are a landlocked region of India. They have no way to reach out to the ocean.”

"So this opens up a huge possibility. This could be an extension of the Chinese economy," Yunus further said at a high-level roundtable discussion in Beijing on Friday.

Besides the Indian states, Yunus also referred to Nepal and Bhutan in his strategic discussion with China.

"That's an opportunity we should seize and implement. Nepal and Bhutan have unlimited hydropower, which is a blessing. We can bring it to our purpose. From Bangladesh, you can go anywhere you want. The ocean is our backyard," Yunus said in Beijing, as per a report by India Today.

"We are the only guardian of the ocean for all this region. So this opens up a huge possibility. This could be an extension of the Chinese economy. Build things, produce things, market things, bring things to China, bring it out to the rest of the world," Yunus added.
