After the deadly earthquakes of March 2025, another earthquake struck Myanmar on Sunday. As per the United States Geological Survey, an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 struck Burma near the Meiktila region.

This tremor comes weeks after the March 28 earthquakes, which killed 3,649 people.

As per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake was of magnitude 5.1. However, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said the earthquake was of magnitude 5.6 and was at a depth of 35 km (21.75 miles).

This new earthquake comes as a possible aftershock of the deadly March 28 earthquake. However, no reports of casualties or damage have been made.

As per Myanmar's Meteorological Department, Sunday's earthquake struck in the area of Wundwin, which is 97 kilometres south of Mandalay.

As per an AP report, residents in the Wundwin area felt strong tremors in the area.

On March 28, 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, with tremors felt across its neighbouring countries - India and Thailand. While no damage was reported in India, buildings and skyscrapers came crashing down in Bangkok.

The earthquake killed a total of 3,649 people and injured thousands of others.

As per the United Nations, the March earthquake further worsened the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, adding to the displacement caused by the civil war.
