At least eight people were killed after a building collapsed in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, following the powerful quake in neighboring Myanmar, according to a Thai deputy prime minister.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake hit at around 11.50 am at a depth of 10 km.
Earlier on Thursday, a mild earthquake of 3.5 magnitude hit Singrauli town of Madhya Pradesh. The epicentre of the earthquake was at 24.21 degrees north, 82.57 degrees east and at a depth of 5 kilometres.
A strong earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, also affecting Bangkok, earthquake monitoring services said, Reuters reported.
There was no immediate comment from Myanmar on the extent of damage following the quake. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake had a magnitude of 7.7 and was epicentered at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

According to CNN, emergency services say 50 people were inside a building that collapsed in Chatuchak Park, Bangkok.
The National Institute for Emergency Medicine says 43 people remain trapped in the building and seven others are injured.
A resident of Yangon in southern Myanmar said the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake was felt for several minutes.
"It was excessively shaky and persisted for three to four minutes,” the resident, who did not want to be named, told CNN. "The building where my house was unstable."
Passengers at Myanmar's Mandalay airport hunkered down and hid on the tarmac when a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck near the city of 1.5 million, according to social media videos, CNN reported.
Tremors of 4.0 magnitude on the Richter scale also hit East Garo Hills in Meghalaya, according to the National Center for Seismology, while Bangladesh felt a magnitude of 7.3.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over the devastating earthquake that struck central Myanmar.
"Concerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance. In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby. Also asked the MEA to remain in touch with the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand," PM said.
A witness from Taungnoo town in Myanmar told Reuters that parts of Kandaw mosque collapsed just before Friday prayers started. People were trapped.
"We got four bodies so far. There can be more. We are arranging the rescues and funeral now. The collapsed happened right before the prayer. People ran out. Some couldn't. "
Reuters could not immediately confirm their report.
Following some earlier confusion over whether a state of emergency had been declared in the Thai capital, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the situation in Bangkok remains serious but no state of emergency had been declared, Reuters reported.
The Thai civil aviation department said Bangkok's airports were operating normally.
There has been no immediate word from Myanmar authorities on damage.
An officer from the Myanmar Fire Services Department told Reuters: "We have started the search and going around Yangon to check for casualties and damage. So far, we have no information yet."
Social media posts from Mandalay, Myanmar's ancient royal capital that is at the centre of its Buddhist heartland, showed collapsed buildings and debris strewn across streets of the city. Reuters could not immediately verify the posts.
Mild tremors were reported from Kolkata and its adjoining areas. According to official sources, there have been no reports of damage to property or loss of life in the city due to the tremor.
The earthquake damaged part of the former royal palace and buildings in Myanmar's second-largest city Mandalay, reports AP, citing videos and photos shared on Facebook.
While the area is prone to earthquakes, it is generally sparsely populated, and most houses are low-rise structures.
Citing official AFP reported that a major hospital in the Myanmar capital Naypyidaw was declared a "mass casualty area" after the country was rocked by a huge earthquake.
The injured lined up outside the emergency department of the 1,000-bed general hospital, some writhing in pain, others lying prone as their relatives tried to console them.
Casualties were feared after a fire erupted at Mandalay University in Myanmar following the powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake on Friday.
A video on social media also showed heavy damage at the University, sending locals into panic.

"Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this event," Christina Powell, Humanitarian Affairs Officer for OCHA said in an email, published by CNN.
The most affected areas are in the center of the country, in the Mandalay region as well as Nay Phi Taw, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Shan and other areas, Powell said. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Mandalay area.
“We are gathering information about the people impacted, infrastructure damage, and immediate humanitarian needs to guide a response and will share more updates as information becomes available,” Powell said.
Thailand has ordered schools to close nationwide to assess damage after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck neighbouring Myanmar.
Citing Phumtham Wechayachai, deputy prime minister and the minister of commerce, CNN reported that such an event has "never happened in 100 years".
"The Ministry of Education has ordered the closure of all schools nationwide, instructing students to return home," Phumtham said.

Jack Brown, who has lived in Bangkok for 10 years, said he was driving on an elevated expressway in the city when the earthquake hit.
"Nobody was driving orderly. And then suddenly, we just see the collapse of the building right in front of us on the left hand side. My initial thought was that if anybody is in that building, then 100% it라이브 바카라 going to be fatalities for sure, he said as quoted by CNN. "It라이브 바카라 been quite an ordeal."
Thailand, including Bangkok, is not located near major tectonic plate boundaries, so large earthquakes are rare.
However, in 2021, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck near the border of Myanmar and Thailand, but it was felt as a mild tremor in Bangkok.
Electricity and internet are down in several parts of Myanmar on Friday following a major earthquake, including in the cities of Mandalay and Sagaing, the Red Cross said.
The organization said in a social media post that major damage has been reported in Mandalay, Sagaing, Naypyitaw, Bago and Southern Shan. The Myanmar Red Cross Society said it is providing first aid and has deployed a response team to Mandalay.
Internet watchdog Netblocks said data show a disruption to internet connectivity in Myanmar following a series of earthquakes.
“The outages are attributed to power cuts and downed telecoms lines which are hindering rescue efforts,” Netblocks said on X.
The Red Cross also reports that there are concerns about damage to large dams following the quake.
Amnesty International has urged the Myanmar라이브 바카라 ruling military junta to allow access to humanitarian aid for all areas affected by the damaging earthquake.
“This earthquake could not come at a worse time for Myanmar. More than three million people remain internally displaced from armed conflict that has raged since the 2021 military coup,” according to a statement from Joe Freeman, Amnesty International라이브 바카라 Myanmar researcher to CNN.
“Central Myanmar, which is believed to be the epicenter of the earthquake, has been ravaged by military air strikes and clashes between resistance groups and the military,” he added.
Large areas of Myanmar are run by a patchwork of militias, making it very difficult to gather reliable information.
Pope Francis offered prayers to the victims of a powerful earthquake in Southeast Asia on Friday, the Vatican said.
“The pope has been informed of the disaster in Myanmar and is praying for the dramatic situation and for the many victims, also in Thailand,’’ the Vatican said, according to AP.
The Red Cross reported that buildings and public infrastructure in Myanmar have been damaged and collapsed due to the earthquake.
"Public infrastructure has been damaged, including roads, bridges and public buildings. We currently have concerns for large-scale dams that people are watching to see the conditions of them", Marie Manrique, Program Coordinator for the International Federation of the Red Cross, says, according to Reuters.

Breaking down the latest figures, the military leader reported that 96 people have died in Nay Pyi Taw, 18 in Sagaing, and 30 in Mandalay.
Regarding the injured, 132 are in Nay Pyi Taw, and 300 in Sagaing, with additional numbers still being assessed in other regions, according to the military's report.
