Ten members of a family, including Brazilian businessman Luiz Claudio Galeazzi, were killed after a private plane crashed in Gramado, southern Brazil. Galeazzi, who was piloting the plane, was killed along with his wife, three daughters, and other family members, according to a statement from his company.

The crash occurred minutes after takeoff on Sunday morning. The small aircraft reportedly hit the chimney of a building, a house, and a shop as it fell.

Galeazzi, 61, was taking his family to Jundiaí in São Paulo state. Rio Grande do Sul state governor Eduardo Leite said all 10 victims were Galeazzi's family members. He added that 17 people on the ground were injured, 12 of whom were still receiving treatment in hospital.

Galeazzi's company, Galeazzi & Associados, released a statement on LinkedIn, paying tribute to its CEO. "Luiz Galeazzi will be eternally remembered for his dedication to his family and his remarkable career," the statement said. The company also expressed sympathy for those affected and pledged to cooperate with the investigation.

Gramado, a popular tourist destination, was severely hit in May this year by unprecedented flooding, which claimed dozens of lives and displaced around 150,000 people from their homes. The crash comes months after a passenger plane carrying 62 people crashed outside São Paulo, killing everyone on board.
