At least four people including three firefighters were killed while hundreds of others were forced to flee homes as deadly wildfires further advanced across South Korea on Monday. Given the current situation, apart from Sancheong, the authorities designated three more counties as 'special disaster zones'.

The raging wildfires in the southeastern region of South Korea have already caused widespread destruction. It has been reported that the wildfires, which are considered the largest in the region, have burnt over 36,300 acres of land in the past five days. According to a report by Moneycontrol, over 30 wildfires have reportedly erupted across the country, fueled by strong, dry winds.

Special Disaster Zones Announced

Reuters reported that while Sancheong was already a special disaster zone, considering the current situation, acting President Han Duck-soo added another county in South Gyeongsang Province and two others in Ulsan and North Gyeongsang Province to the list.

A special disaster zone refers to a designation that triggers extra funding and other measures.

Efforts Underway To Contain The Wildfires

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, the acting leader after President Yoon Suk Yeol라이브 바카라 impeachment over a December martial law decree, promised an all-out effort to contain the wildfires during a government meeting on Tuesday.

Government officials suspect that several of the recent wildfires, including those in Uiseong and Ulsan, were caused by human error, possibly due to the use of fire to clear overgrown grass in family tombs or sparks from welding work.
