Mediators have announced a ceasefire between The United States and Yemen's Houthis, saying the deal would ensure "freedom of navigation" in the Red Sea, AFP reported.

This announcement comes after U.S. President Donald Trump said the country would end attacks against the Houthis since the Iran-backed rebels agreed to stop harassing ships. He made no mention of the recent attacks in Yemen라이브 바카라 capital.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi on Tuesday said that after the recent discussions and contacts with the aim of de-escalation, a ceasefire agreement between the two sides has been reached, AFP reported.

"Neither side will target the other ... ensuring freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of international commercial shipping" in the Red Sea, Albusaidi said.

Trump said the rebels had "capitulated" after the US responded with a seven-week bombing campaign that killed 300 people, according to an AFP tally of Houthis data.

Mahdi al-Mashat - rebels' political leader - has not commented on the ceasefire. He said the group will retaliate with a "painful" response to Israeli strikes that were launched after Houthis' attack on Israel's main airport.

"If the American enemy resumes its attacks, we will resume our strikes," Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdelsalam said to the rebels' Al-Masirah television channel, according to AFP.

"The real guarantee for the accord is the dark experience that the United States has had in Yemen," he added.

Merchant ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden have been under attack by the Houthi rebels since late 2023. The attacks come as a response of solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.

Houthis rebels stopped the attacks following the two-month ceasefire in the Gaza war.

However in March, Houthis threatened to start the attacks again on shipping after Israel blocked aid from entering the Gaza strip. This triggered the response from the U.S.

"The Huthis have announced... that they don't want to fight anymore. They just don't want to fight," Trump said.

"And we will honour that, and we will stop the bombings, and they have capitulated," he added.

"They say they will not be blowing up ships anymore, and that's... the purpose of what we were doing." AFP quoted Trump.
