US-China Relations: China Reached Out, Trade Talks Underway; TikTok Deal On Hold, Says Trump

China might get some relief from the ongoing tariff war. United States President Donald Trump hinted at potentially ending the tit-for-tat tariff hikes that have rocked markets. However, a decision on TikTok's fate may be delayed, reports Reuters.

"I don't want them to go higher because at a certain point you make it where people don't buy," Trump told reporters at the Oval Office, as quoted by Reuters.

"I have a very good relationship with President Xi, and I think it라이브 바카라 going to continue. And I would say they have reached out a number of times," he said.

"We have a deal for TikTok, but it'll be subject to China, so we'll just delay the deal 'til this thing works out one way or the other," Trump added.

"If you knew him, you would know that if they reached out, he knew exactly. He knew everything about it; he runs it very tight, very strong, and very smart."

Trump's comments also suggested that the move to raise tariffs across all sectors on dozens of countries has dampened demand after markets reacted violently when the tariffs were imposed on April 2.

"So, I may not want to go higher, or I may not want to even go up to that level. I may want to go to less because, you know you want people to buy and, at a certain point, people aren't gonna buy."

When asked if the Chinese president had personally reached out to him or if it was Chinese officials who initiated contact, Trump said, "Well, the same. I view it very similarly. It would be top levels of China."

According to Reuters reports, Trump said China had been in touch since the imposition of tariffs and expressed optimism that they could reach a deal.

The Trump administration has ramped up pressure on China in recent months by imposing higher import duties on Chinese goods. The White House unveiled a fact sheet on Tuesday, outlining potential tariffs of up to 245% on Chinese imports.
