32 Airports Shut For Civilian Flights Till May 15

The move comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 26 individuals.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Saturday announced that 32 airports across the northern and western parts of the country will remain shut for civil flights until May 15. The move comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 26 individuals. 


The notice released by the ministry stated that, “The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and relevant aviation authorities have issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports across northern and western India for all civil flight operations, effective from 9th to 14th May 2025 (which corresponds to 0529 IST on 15th May 2025), due to operational reasons.”

The airports where the civil flights have been suspended include Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai.

In a previous direction, 24 airports had been shut for civil operation until May 10. 

Several airlines including IndiGo, Air India and Spicejet have cancelled relevant flights. 

Air India posted on X stating, "Following a notification from aviation authorities on continued closure of multiple airports in India, Air India flights to and from the following stations - Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar and Rajkot - are being cancelled till 0529 hrs IST on May 15, pending further updates.”

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has also directed all airports and airlines across the country to enhance security measures
