Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has stated that around 1,000 Hindu devotees are still missing after the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj.
Akhilesh Yadav's claim comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha regarding the success of the pilgrimage but left out a mention of the stampede.
"We have witnessed the awakening of our national consciousness on a magnificent scale in the grand Mahakumbh. This national consciousness is what drives our country toward new resolutions and inspires us to achieve them. The Mahakumbh has also provided a fitting response to the doubts and uncertainties that some may have had regarding our collective strength," stated Modi as he drew parallels with the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
"It was an event where people from every region, every corner of the country, came together as one… When people speaking various languages chant ‘Har Har Gange’ on the banks of the Sangam, it manifests the essence of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ and strengthens unity. It reaffirmed that the profound element of unity is deeply ingrained within us. The power of our unity is so great that it can overcome any attempt to divide us… At a time when the world is witnessing fragmentation, this grand display of solidarity is our greatest strength," Modi added further.
However, as tge PM did not mention the stampede near the Sangam which killed around 30 people, the opposition erupted in protest after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was disallowed from speaking in the Lok Sabha.
"The BJP and its people should help the families of those who lost their loved ones in the Mahakumbh. Even now, 1000 Hindus are missing from the Kumbh whose whereabouts are not known. The BJP should provide information on the 1000 people who are missing," Yadav said," after Modi's speech in the Lok Sabha.
"The government should find the Hindu brethren who are missing and unite them with their families. People put up posters of missing people and the government is even getting those removed," the SP chief added.
