Delhi Tightens Security Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

Security has been heightened across key installations in New Delhi, including government buildings and high-footfall zones, following a sharp escalation in hostilities between India and Pakistan. According to PTI, the precautionary measures come after Pakistan reportedly launched drone and missile strikes targeting several Indian border areas late Thursday.

A senior Delhi Police officer told PTI that security had been increased around “all vital installations, including government buildings, sewage treatment plants, water treatment plants, courts, and foreign embassies.” Additional forces, including paramilitary personnel, have been deployed across the city.

High-traffic areas such as markets, railway stations, parks, shopping malls, and Metro hubs are also under heightened surveillance. Police patrols have been stepped up, particularly during nighttime hours. “Night vigil has been intensified. We will deploy extra force in every sensitive area,” the officer said.

According to the report, the Delhi Police cancelled all personnel leave late Thursday as a precautionary measure. Senior officers, including special commissioners, are reportedly holding coordination meetings with their deputies to review preparedness. “All the DCPs are actively monitoring law and order in their respective areas. Delhi Police is ready to deal with any kind of situation,” a police source told the news agency.

Anti-sabotage drills and bomb disposal operations have been conducted at multiple locations, and vehicle checks have been intensified at entry points into the city.

The increased alert follows what the defence ministry described as thwarted attempts by the Pakistani military to strike Indian military targets using drones and missiles. According to the ministry, the attempted strikes were aimed at military sites in at least 15 locations across northern and western India, including Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, Srinagar, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Bhuj.
