Pakistan announced an Indian High Commission staff member "persona non grata" for engaging in activities that it called "incompatible" with his privileged status.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement mentioned that the concerned official will have to leave Pakistan within the day, PTI reported early on Wednesday morning.

The move comes one day after Indian authorities expelled a Pakistani official employed at Pakistan라이브 바카라 High Commission on Tuesday for allegedly indulging in 'espionage'.

The Indian Charge d’Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan on Tuesday for a démarche - a political course of action.

"The Government of Pakistan has declared a staff member of the Indian High Commission, Islamabad, as persona non grata for engaging in activities incompatible with his privileged status," it said.

The Ministry of External Affair yesterday - after declaring the Pakistan official "persona non grata" - said that the official's activities did not align with his official status in India.

"The official has been asked to leave India within 24 hours. Charge d' Affaires, Pakistan High Commission, was issued a demarche to this effect today," it said.

The two nuclear-armed neighbours were at loggerheads since Wednesday last week, in a rapidly escalating tension that brought the South Asian nations to the brink of war - only to be stopped by a U.S.-brokered ceasefire announced Saturday afternoon. The escalation began after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed at least 26 civilians - all men.

The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the two countries have been in contact since the declaration of the immediate ceasefire to de-escalate the situation across the Line of Control and otherwise.

India's DGMO on Sunday said that ceasefire understandings take time to manifest on ground. However, the armed forces remain on high alert.
