Six days after Islamabad barred Indian-operated flights from its airspace, New Delhi has responded in kind, announcing a complete ban on Pakistani-owned and operated aircraft from entering Indian airspace.

The move comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in which 26 tourists were gunned down by terrorists with links to Pakistan. The terror attack was religiously-motivated and came days after an inflammatory speech by Pakistan's army chief General Asim Munir.

Earlier, Air India and IndiGo have issued advisories warning of potential disruptions to international flights after Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian carriers.

In updates shared on X, both airlines said certain flight schedules may be affected due to rerouting, which could result in longer travel times. Air India specifically noted that services to the United States, Europe, and the Middle East might face delays or changes.

The airlines advised passengers to check their flight status and schedules before heading to the airport. Apologizing for the inconvenience, they assured that efforts are being made to minimize disruptions.
