Armed militants shot an off-duty Army jawan on Wednesday in a Tral village in South Kashmir's Pulwama district.

The Indian Express said the jawan identified as Delhair Mushtaq, a member of the Territorial Army currently stationed in north Kashmir's Pattan, was shot twice in the legs when he was returning home in his car.

According to officials, multiple bullets were fired on the car. The injured jawan was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be stable.

Police said the jawan was posted with Rashtriya Rifles in Baramulla's Pattan area and was on leave.

This is not the first incident of an attack on off-duty police or armymen in Kashmir.

On October 8, a Territorial Army rifleman was killed after being kidnapped by militants during a search operation in South Kashmir's Kokernag.
