When asked about US President Donald Trump's claim of brokering ceasefire between India and Pakistan along with a promise of trade in future, MEA confirmed that there were no trade talks held between Indian and US representatives ahead of ceasefire.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed a press briefing on Tuesday where he confirmed that India will keep Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance until 'Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures support for cross-border terrorism'.
When asked about US President Donald Trump's claim of brokering ceasefire between India and Pakistan along with a promise of trade in future, MEA confirmed that there were no trade talks held between Indian and US representatives ahead of ceasefire.
This briefing takes places hours after PM Narendra Modi spoke about the ongoing tension with neighbouring Pakistan and the success of Operation Sindoor during his visit to the Adampur air base in Punjab.
MEA spokesperson stated, "Our long-standing position is that Kashmir issue has to be addressed bilaterally between India, Pak and that position has not changed."
He added, "Only issue with Islamabad on Kashmir is return of illegally-occupied territories to India by Pakistan."
When asked about US President Trump's speculation on nuclear conflict between India, Pakistan, Jaiswal said, "Our military action was entirely in conventional domain."
He added, "India has a firm stance that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail or allow cross-border terrorism to be conducted invoking it."
"There were some reports that Pakistan's National Command Authority will meet on May 10. But this was later denied by them. Pakistan foreign minister has himself denied the nuclear angle on record," Jaiswal said.
When asked about India's stance on Nuclear war, Jaiswal said, "As you know, India has a firm stance that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail or allow cross-border terrorism to be conducted invoking it."
"In conversations with various countries, we also cautioned that their subscribing to such scenarios could hurt them in their own region," he added.
Jaiswal said India will keep Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures support for cross-border terrorism.
"Please also note that climate change, demographic shifts and technological changes have created new realities on the ground," the MEA spokesperson said.
Pakistan nurtured terrorism on an industrial scale, he said.
Terrorist infrastructure that India destroyed under Operation Sindoor were responsible not only for the deaths of Indians but of many other innocents around world, he said
