Odisha Honour Killing, Parents Get Life-Term For Murder: Case Explained

A sessions court in Odisha has delivered a life imprisonment to the parents who killed their minor daughter stating it to not be a rarest of the rare case.

A sessions court in Odisha라이브 바카라 Jajpur district has delivered a judgement and convicted the parents to life imprisonment for killing and burning their minor daughter라이브 바카라 body nine years ago. The court has also imposed Rs.10000 penalty on the convicts. While sentencing the parents, the Ad-hoc Additional Sessions Judge, Jajpur Bijaya Kumar Jena observed this to be an honour killing and also proclaimed that such instances are often occurring in society. 

Case Background

In February 2016, the parents of the victim got aware that their 15-year-old daughter was pregnant. According to a female residing close-by in the village, a sound of crying was heard by her on the night of the incident. 

She had filed an FIR in the Binjharpur police station claiming that the noise was heard at night drawing the neighbours out of their respective houses. The woman also asserted that she had overheard the conversation between the girl and her parents with the former pleading her father for mercy and that she would no longer maintain physical relations with the child라이브 바카라 father. She further stated that the noises fell silent after a while and alleged that the accused along with the co-villagers had cremated the corpse in a dried pond situated behind the house. Post cremation, her remains were allegedly packed and dumped in a nearby river.

The convicts had allegedly confessed to their crimes during the investigation. 

According to the court, their statements were deemed unsatisfactory and that the burden was upon them to illuminate the circumstances of the deceased라이브 바카라 death. 

The court did not deliver a death verdict reasoning that this was not a rarest of the rare case and gave a life imprisonment instead verdict to both the accused.
