India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for a large-scale air exercise along the southern section of the Indo-Pakistan border, set to take place on May 7 and 8, reports said.
Pahalgam Terror Attack Live Updates: In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct a nationwide civil defence mock drill across 244 districts on May 7, aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness and public safety mechanisms.
India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for a large-scale air exercise along the southern section of the Indo-Pakistan border, set to take place on May 7 and 8, reports said.
The exercise, which is part of India's routine operational readiness drills, will involve the Indian Air Force (IAF) conducting maneuvers along the International Border in Rajasthan.
A NOTAM is a written notification issued to pilots before a flight, advising them of circumstances relating to the state of flying.
The Amir of the State of Qatar in a telephonic conversation with PM Modi expressed his condolences and stands in solidarity with India, the MEA said in a post on X.
"PM thanked HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani for the clear message of solidarity and support. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepen 🇮🇳-🇶🇦 Strategic Partnership and to implement the decisions taken during the State Visit of the Amir earlier this year," MEA said.
In accordance with the directives issued by the MHA, Madhya Pradesh will conduct mock drills in five districts.
The mock drills will be held on Wednesday in five cities of the state including Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Katni from 4 pm.
Civil defence officials in Pune tested 75 sirens across the Pune city in light of the civil defence mock drill scheduled on May 7.
"After receiving the guidelines regarding the mock drills, we have started testing the sirens....our personnel are visiting each site to verify that sirens are functioning properly," Yogesh Pardeshi, divisional warden of the Kothrud division of Civil Defence told PTI.
As part of the mock drill by MHA, some roads could be closed temporarily, leading to traffic diversions.
Flights and trains are expected run in a routine manner.
The Srinagar police has issued a notification stating that the civil defence mock drill scheduled on May 7 will take place at 4 PM.
The mock drills will be undertaken at 20 places in the state including including Ferozepur, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Patiala, Pathankot, Barnala and Mohali.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema told PTI on Tuesday that preparations for conducting the mock drill are almost complete.
After a high level meeting conducted by the MHA in the presence of all states, including Odisha, the Odisha government held a preparatory meeting on Tuesday.
It was decided that the mock drill will be held in Angul, Khurda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Dhenkanal, Puri, Koraput, Sambalpur and Sundargarh.
"The air raid sirens will blare for nearly 5 minutes at 4 pm on Wednesday. We request the people to take shelter in concrete roof buildings when the siren blares," Sudhansu Sarangi, DG, Fire Services told PTI.
The BJP has directed all its MPs to indulge in the mock drills scheduled on May 7.
It has also directed state presidents to coordinate with senior office bearers and district presidents to make sure that the drill is executed in a smooth manner.
"Appeal to all citizens, BJP karyakartas and leaders to come forward and volunteer. Your participation will make all the difference," stated the post alongside MHA's notification regarding the mock drills.
While speaking to PTI on the civil defence mock drills, DGP Vinay Kumar said, "These drills help us assess the readiness of civil population and available equipment, and checking whether everything is in order. Mock drills will be conducted in every district which are included in the civil defence list of Bihar to examine the coordination and effectiveness of the response mechanism, ensuring that everyone involved knows how to act during an actual emergency."
Banswara collector Indrajit Singh Yadav said that they are doing all preparations for the mock drill.
"It is important to note down the response time of the rescue team, see their alertness," he told PTI.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has asserted that Kharge's remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi pertaining to the Pahalgam attack are intended to lower the morale of security forces.
Preparations for the civil defence mock drill held at the Jaisalmer district under the supervision of District Collector Pratap Singh.
Delhi Minister Ashish Sood on Tuesday said that preparations for conducting mock drills in Delhi are underway.
The Home Ministry had asked Sood to check the city government's preparedness for the drills on the sidelines of an event.
"Preparations are going on. We will seek more information and preparations will be made in that regard," he told PTI.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarm said, "Assam cabinet has approved financial assistance of Rs 5 lakhs each to the families of those who were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack."
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said India should give an effective response to last month's Pahalgam attack and termed the incident as barbaric and cowardly.
"It was a terror attack, a cowardly attack. The more we condemn it, the less it is. We have seen how terrorists from Pakistan killed 26 people," Owaisi told PTI.

The water level in the Chenab River at Jammu's Akhnoor dropped significantly after authorities closed gates of the Salal and Baglihar dams as a coercive measures implemented on Pakistan amid escalating tension after the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
Locals gathered near the river to see the drop in water levels, and the police have warned the people against crossing the river on foot and to restrain them from searching for gold and silver ornaments and coins.
The decrease in the water level is due to the closure of the Salal and Baglihar hydel power dams in Reasi and Ramban districts on Sunday morning, The Indian Express reported.

Amid rising India-Pakistan tensions, the United Nations Security Council has held closed-door consultations where envoys called for restraint and dialogue.
The consultations, held by the 15-nation Security Council, lasted about an hour and a half on Monday afternoon but no statement was issued from the Council after the meeting.
Pakistan, currently a non-permanent member of the powerful Council, had requested for "closed consultations" on the situation between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

Over closed-door UNSC meeting on Kashmir, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, "...I am quiet confident that the UNSC will not pass a resolution criticising Pakistan because China will veto it, they will not pass a resolution criticising us as many countries will object to it and probably veto it. It will be more a call for peace and concern about terror in a general kind of language."
"I am not expecting anything specific out of the Council, either in formal meetings or informal consultations, that will directly affect us or Pakistanis very much. That is the sad reality of the way these things function."

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will on Tuesday review the preparations for strengthening civil defence mechanisms that include conducting mock drills on air-raid warning sirens, training civilians to protect themselves in the event of a "hostile attack" and cleaning bunkers and trenches.
"The home secretary will review the preparations for civil defence being made across 244 districts. Chief secretaries and heads of civil defence from across the country will participate in the meeting via video conferencing," a source told PTI.
Parts of the Chenab River started to dry up as India closed all the gates of the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Dam and Salal Dam, regulating water flow to Pakistan.
A tourist said, " People of Kashmir are cooperative and well qualified, there is no issue...Right now, the situation is very good...I want to say to all tourists not to cancel your trip, you should visit Kashmir."

Pakistan will respond with "full force" to preserve its "national prestige" and wellbeing of its people, Army chief Gen Asim Munir said Monday.
General Munir made the comments during his interaction with participants of the 15th National Workshop Balochistan at GHQ, according to a statement issued by the army.
He "emphasised that Pakistan seeks peace in the region and beyond, however, if Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity is violated, Pakistan will respond with full force to preserve its national prestige and wellbeing of its people,” the army said.
"Terrorist groups that perpetrate terror in the name of Baloch identity to advance their petty insidious agenda are a blemish on Baloch honour and patriotism,” he said while talking about the unrest in Balochistan.

UN chief António Guterres on May 5 condemned the Pahalgam attack and he said perpetrators must be brought to justice. Urging both India and Pakistan to avoid military confrontation, he said, “make no mistake, a military solution is no solution, and I offer my good offices to both governments in the service of peace.”

As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate, Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir for the 12th consecutive night, prompting a strong and balanced response from the Indian Army.
