Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his New Delhi residence on Monday, 28 April, to assess India's strategic response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The 40-minute closed-door discussion focused on military preparedness and possible retaliatory actions as India assesses its strategic options following the Pahalgam terror attack.

According to reports by PTI and The Hindu, Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan briefed the leadership on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, operational preparedness along the Line of Control (LoC), and measures to counter potential cross-border infiltration earlier this week.

The meeting, held at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, lasted approximately 40 minutes. ANI reported that Defence Minister Singh received updates from military commanders prior to the meeting with the prime minister, focusing on troop readiness and surveillance capabilities.

The review follows the April 22 attack in Kashmir라이브 바카라 Baisaran Valley, where 26 civilians were killed. Indian authorities have linked the assault to The Resistance Front (TRF), a group believed to be backed by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. Islamabad has denied any involvement.

In the days since the attack, India has placed its participation under the Indus Waters Treaty “in abeyance,” suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals, and reinforced security at key border crossings. Pakistan, in response, has closed its airspace to Indian flights and expelled several Indian diplomats.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stressed the need for a multi-pronged response balancing internal security, diplomatic engagement, and military preparedness. A broader national security review is expected later this week.

Internationally, the United States has called for "responsible de-escalation," while China has urged both sides to exercise restraint and resolve differences through dialogue.
