PM Modi US Visit LIVE: Bilateral Meeting With President Trump Today; Visit Likely To Strengthen India-US Ties

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a two-day working visit to the US starting Wednesday and hold a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump.

• A range of bilateral issues are expected to be on the table besides, besides discussions on regional and international situation.

• This will be Modi's first visit since the inauguration of the second presidential term of Trump on January 20.

• Modi will also interact with business leaders and members of the Indian community in the US.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive at the White House in Washington, DC on the evening of February 12, 2025.

His much-anticipated meeting with US officials will take place the following day, February 13, 2025.

While the date is confirmed, the exact time for the meeting is yet to be announced to the public.

Modi's bilateral meeting with Trump is expected to focus on key topics such as trade, investment, technology, defense cooperation, counterterrorism, Indo-Pacific security, and people-to-people relations. The two leaders are also likely to address the situation in Bangladesh, along with other regional and global issues.

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press briefing last week said that the prime minister's visit to the US at the invitation of President Trump, weeks after his inauguration, shows the "importance of India-US partnership and is also reflective of the bipartisan support that this partnership enjoys in the US."

Mumbai Police have arrested a man from Chembur who allegedly made a threat call to PM Narendra Modi's aircraft ahead of his visit to the United States.

As per news agency ANI, the call was made on Wednesday, warning that terrorists may attack the PM's aircraft.

"On 11th February, a call was received at Mumbai Police control room warning that terrorists may attack PM Modi's aircraft as he was leaving on an official visit abroad. Considering the serious nature of the information, the Police informed other agencies and began an investigation," said Mumbai Police, adding that the man who made the call has been taken into custody.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday jointly inaugurated India's new consulate in France's Marseille city.

The two leaders jointly inaugurated India's new consulate in Marseille with the press of a button amid cheers from the gathered crowd.

Many of these people had come bearing national flags of both India and France, while some sported a tricolour headgear, adding colour to the occasion.

The trip comes at a time when the government has received much flak for the video of chained and shackled illegal Indian migrants being sent back on a military aircraft. Many Indians are angry that the Modi government was not able to ensure that its nationals were sent back with dignity.

Commenting on India's endeavor to enhance maritime ties with France, PM Modi posted on X, "Strengthening Maritime Ties in Marseille! President and I visited the control room of CMA-CGM, a global leader in shipping and logistics."

"As India expands its maritime and trade networks, collaborations with industry leaders will play a crucial role in boosting connectivity, supply chains and economic growth. We are working towards enhancing India-France cooperation in logistics, sustainability, and global trade, reinforcing our shared vision for a better maritime future", the prime minister further added.

In his departure statement ahead of his visit to France and the United States, Modi said his trip will also help develop an agenda to further elevate and deepen India's partnership with the US, including in the areas of technology, trade, defence, energy and supply chain resilience.

He later said on X, "This visit will further cement India-USA friendship and boost ties in diverse sectors. I warmly recall working with President Trump during his first term and I am sure our talks will build on the ground covered then."

Noting that it will be their first meeting since Trump's inauguration as the US president for a second term, Modi said in the departure statement that the two leaders will work together for the mutual benefit of the people of their countries and shape a better future for the world.

He said he looks forward to meeting "my friend, President Trump".
