The Directorate General of Foreign Trade under the Commerce Ministry has launched a dedicated 'Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk' to assist stakeholders in understanding and navigating the constantly changing trade related information and global tariff war.
The commerce ministry in an official statement said on Friday that it is actively tracking developments in global trade, particularly in relation to tariff changes, import surges, and export-related challenges.
Currently the global stock market and tariffs is looking at potential trade war especially after US President Donald Trump announced 'reciprocal' tariffs and then paused it after huge stock market crash. US and China continues to imposes huge tariffs on each other leading to tariff rivalry.
Trump's 10 per cent universal tax on US made goods has been imposed on India as well.
In its notice, the ministry stated, "Given the evolving trade landscape and the introduction of various tariff and counter-tariff measures, there may be both new export opportunities and heightened import pressures from specific countries or product sectors."
The helpdesk would look into issues relating to import and export challenges, import surges or dumping, EXIM Clearance, logistics or supply chain challenges, financial or banking issues, and regulatory or compliance issues.
It will also collect and collate trade-related issues concerning other ministries/ departments or agencies of central and state governments and will co-ordinate to seek their support and provide possible resolutions.
With the US imposing a 10 per cent tariff on most of its trading partners, 125 per cent is slapped on China. It has triggered a trade war between the two countries.
According to reports navigating the DGFT Website is not that difficult if few steps are followed.
One needs to visit the DGFT Website - https://dgft.gov.in and then click on to 'Services' option and from their they can find 'DGFT Helpdesk Service'.
The user then will have to go for ‘Create New Request’ and select the Category as ‘Global Tariff and Trade, and Issues’
After that there were be suitable sub-categories to choose from such as - Import Challenges, Export Challenges, Import Surges or Dumping, EXIM Clearance, Logistics or Supply Chain Challenges, Regulatory & Compliance Issues, and Other Issues and Suggestions.
Then The user has to enter the relevant details asked for in the website and submit.
Users who are unable to access the helpdesk via website can also send an email to - dgftedi@nic.in with the subject header: ‘Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk’, according to the Hindustan Times report.
A Toll-Free Number has also been activated for users - 1800-111-550.
