Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has said the Waqf (Amendment) Act will not only benefit the deprived people belonging to the Muslim community but also protect the interests of tribal communities in the state by preventing land grabbing.
"The influential people from the Muslim community took the Waqf properties on lease and set up big malls. The rich kept on becoming richer but the poor did not get any benefit," Sai said in an interview to PTI Videos.
"We would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, who has been taking many bold decisions. This is also one of them. With the introduction of the Act, their arbitrariness will definitely stop and the Waqf Board will work for the upliftment of the Pasmanda Muslims, the poor and the women,” he said.

The biggest challenge presently faced by waqfs in India is that they have lost the battle of perception even before the legal battle commences. A general public perception has been created that waqf is a unique and flawed concept and requires legal overhaul.
It is from this lens that the entire dispute is seen, and even those who are able to see the communal agenda behind the Waqf Amendment Act end up conceding that some change to the law was required. Read Here

The concept and practices of auqaf (the plural of waqf) are 1,400 years old. Its genesis lies in the times of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) or even earlier. Waqf derives its name from the Arabic word ‘waqufa’, meaning to hold, detain, or tie up.
Authenticated sources trace the story to the Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Umar (RA), requesting the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) to advise him on making pious use of a piece of land having links with Khyber in its vicinity. Read Here

As the Supreme Court is going to hear Waqf (Amendment) Act case today, AIMPLB member Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali said, "The SC is going to her the case today. We are of the view that since Waqf is an integral part of our religion, so Muslims should have the complete freedom in administering and managing Waqf properties."
"It has been mentioned that there are many clauses in this amendment which are basically against the provisions of our constitution especially Articles 14, 15, 25, 26. On this ground, we are more than confident that the SC will give justice to the Muslim community," he added.
In a menacingly bipolar polity and society, and in an era of easy-labelling and stereotyping, telling truth and holding a mirror before the two poles is a much more difficult task. Accusations and counter-accusations of opportunism against independent-minded interventions on a contentious issue come rather hastily.
Thus, commenting upon a deeply flawed, ill-intended and partisan law on Waqf (Muslim charitable endowments) becomes as much difficult as it is to point out the flaws within certain aspects of the institutional creation and bad management of the Waqf. Read Here
