England started brightly in the opening ODI in Nagpur, but failed to build on that early positivity.

After losing Phil Salt (43), England saw Ben Duckett (32) and Harry Brook (0) fall in the next over, with Joe Root offering just 19 on his return to the team.

Captain Buttler scored 52, combining with youngster Jacob Bethell (51) to give England hope, but India's bowling attack had too much as the tourists were bowled out for 248.

Shubman Gill's 87 then inspired India to victory, leaving Buttler to rue that capitulation.

"Disappointed to not win," said Buttler after England slipped to their fifth ODI defeat in the space of six such matches against India.

"We got off to a fantastic start, the two opening guys were really aggressive. Losing four wickets close together got us down.

"We saw how the wicket played, 40 runs would've been crucial.

"It라이브 바카라 not how we want to play. We’re trying to put the opposition under pressure and try to keep the momentum going for as long as possible."

England also made a positive start with the ball, taking two early wickets before Gill took the match away from them.

Buttler added: "The guys started really well. At one point, the game was in the balance. If we had found a chance earlier, it would've been different.

"We need to play better, execute better and play better for longer. We've shown in stages that we can do better but we need to do better for longer when under pressure."

The second ODI of the three-match series takes place on Sunday.
