It was an incredible game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday night where Royal Challengers Bengaluru eked out a two-run win over Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring encounter. (Highlights | Full Coverage | Schedule | Points Table)
The game freshened memories of last year's encounter between the two sides where RCB had come out on top after CSK blundered in a similar run chase. While news around the RCB-CSK clash are doing rounds, there are also two big games coming up on Sunday.
As we move further deep into the tournament, here is a wrap of all important news since the RCB vs CSK game till now.
RCB on top
RCB have now won four straight games and their qualification to the play-offs is almost confirmed. They are currently on top of the standings with 16 points in 11 games. They will remain on top till Tuesday when the winner of Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians clash will take over the summit.
RCB would like to keep going and finish inside top two.
Dayal does it again
It was a deja vu moment for Yash Dayal last night. He had stopped CSK in a similar run chase last year with the wicket of MS Dhoni and yesterday, the left-arm pacer did it again. He kept his cool and dismissed Dhoni and then defended four of the final ball to help RCB achieve a memorable victory.
Ayush Mhatre announces himself
The talent was there to see for everyone but on Saturday night Ayush Mhatre delivered on his promise. The 17-year-old set up the chase beautifully in favour of CSK with a 48-ball 94. However, that incredible innings ended up on losing side as the CSK lower order just could not achieve the target.
"It's early days, but we have been very impressed with one of his skills, right from when he trialled and was with us in the early part of the season... but more his temperament, really," CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said. "It's one thing to have a lot of shots, but to be able to execute that game plan on a big stage in front of some of the biggest players in the world is what I admire. I think we have enjoyed a lot of the shot play from young players in this tournament and we're delighted that we've got one ourselves, so yes, excited about the future for him."
