IPL 2025 - Point Table

10 teams are participating in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL): Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, and Rajasthan Royals.

Each team will play 14 matches during the group stage, and the points table will update their standings after every game. A team earns two points for a win and one point for a draw or washout. If two or more teams have the same number of points, the team with the better net run rate (NRR) will be ranked higher. The points table will show the number of matches played, wins, losses, calculated NRR, and points. The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs, which includes two Qualifiers and one Eliminator, before the finale. A total of 74 matches are scheduled to be played from March 22 to May 25, 2025, with the final taking place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Stats is where it's at, in the Indian Premier League. Making sense of the numbers helps teams devise winning strategies and viewers appreciate the game better. The 2025 edition of IPL reinforces this data-driven approach of T20 cricket. Sound analysis of batters' strike rates and averages puts the runs in context, and similarly for bowlers, the economy rate and dot balls per spell add to the wickets collected.

As is the tradition every year, the top run-scorer of IPL 2025 earns the Orange Cap and the leading wicket-taker at the end of the season walks away with the Purple Cap. Royal Challengers Bengaluru mainstay Virat Kohli claimed the Orange Cap in 2024 with 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and strike rate of 154.69. Kohli is looking to replicate that form in 2025 as RCB resumes its pursuit of the elusive trophy.

Bowling all-rounder Harshal Patel, who played for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024, was the Purple Cap holder the previous season with 24 wickets at an average of 19.87 and economy rate of 9.73. Harshal was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 mega auction and the thinking cricketer aims to make it a season to remember with a rich haul of wickets that could help him make a comeback into the Indian national team.
