Lucknow Super Giants thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets in Match 7 of the Indian Premier League 2025 on Tuesday night at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. (Match Highlights | Schedule | Teams | Points Table)
As expected, the match was packed with record-breaking moments, but this time it was Lucknow Super Giants who stole the show. Nicolas Pooran turned the heat up by smashing the fastest-ever IPL 50 in just 18 balls, while Shardul Thakur marked his milestone by claiming his 100th IPL wicket and setting new personal-best bowling figures(4/34) both claiming the purple and orange cap, respectively.
LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and made a bold call to bowl first on a pitch that screamed batsman's paradise, especially against a team like Sunrisers Hyderabad, known for their explosive batting. It was a decision that raised a few eyebrows, but Pant's confidence quickly quelled any doubts as his team put on a masterclass with the ball.
Shardul Thakur, continuing his redemption arc, made early breakthroughs, removing opener Abhishek Sharma for just 6 and Ishan Kishan for a duck.
Thakur, initially unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, was called in as a replacement for the injured Mohsin Khan, and he delivered in style. Ishan Kishan, who had scored a match-winning 100 in SRH라이브 바카라 opener against Rajasthan Royals, was dismissed for a golden duck in his second match with SRH.
Travis Head was in full flow, smashing the ball with his usual power -- five fours and 3 sixes-- but the Super Giants' tight fielding tactics kept him in check. He could only manage 47 off 28 balls before the uncapped Prince Yadav made a breakthrough, sending him packing with a clean bowled delivery.
Prince Yadav also dismissed Heinrich Klaasen with a ricochet run-out. In the 12th over, he bowled a full toss to Nitish Kumar Reddy, whose shot was mishandled by Prince, sending the ball to the non-striker's end where Klaasen was out of his crease. Despite taking the crucial wicket, Prince hurt his hand in the process and was visibly in pain, grimacing for several moments on the field.
Despite the early setbacks, the hosts managed to post a competitive total of 190/9 in 20 overs, thanks to some valuable contributions from the middle order. Captain Pat Cummins briefly stole the spotlight, launching a quickfire 18 off just 4 balls, including a hat-trick of sixes. However, his blistering cameo came to an end when he was caught by Divgesh Rathi off an Avesh Khan delivery.
Chasing the 191-run target, Lucknow made light work of the chase. Aiden Markram failed to make an impact, falling to Shami and caught by Cummins for just 1. However, Mitchell Marsh and Nicolas Pooran took control, guiding LSG steadily toward victory and ensuring their first win of the IPL 2025 season.
Mitchell Marsh smashed a quickfire 52 off 31 balls, while Nicolas Pooran went on a rampage, scoring an explosive 70 off just 26 balls. Pooran's knock included the fastest-ever IPL half-century, along with six sixes and six fours, taking LSG closer to their target in no time.
Pant finally broke his deadlock as LSG captain and of IPL 2025 season, scoring a steady 15 off 15 balls. This came after his disappointing 6-ball duck in the opener, where DC snatched a dramatic one-wicket victory over LSG.
In the end, Abdul Samad ensured there were no late hiccups, smashing 21 off just 8 balls to guide LSG to victory with David Miller (13 off 7 balls) on the other side. They chased down the target in a remarkable 16.1 overs, posting 193/5 and securing a 5-wicket win.
Lucknow Super Giants will face Punjab Kings next on April 1, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Delhi Capitals on March 30.
