In Formula 1 history, 20 drivers have represented Japan, but not one has managed to win a race let alone the home race Japanese Grand Prix -- a curious mix of heartbreak and what some might even call a curse.
The home crowd at Suzuka has long waited for a local hero to rise and this year, that hope rests on Yuki Tsunoda, who is yet to grab his first F1 podium. The fact that the 24-year-old is recently promoted from the Racing Bulls to the main Red Bull Racing team alongside reigning champion Max Verstappen, the weight of expectation is even higher. However, three of the Japanese drivers have reached the podium with third-place finishes -- Aguri Suzuki in 1990 and Kamui Kobayahi in 2012, both at the Japanese GP, and Takuma Sato in 2004 in the United States GP.

"I am [surprised], we tried the best we could to get the best possible balance for the car but it wasn’t easy even in qualifying, but in every session we just kept on making little improvements.
"I think that라이브 바카라 where we made the difference and the last lap was just flat out, I mean around here being on the limit and maybe even a bit over it at places is incredibly rewarding."
"Congrats to Max. He did a good job. Hats off as you have to credit when he did a lap that good. I am happy. Max did an amazing lap. For us both to be up there fighting for pole is good, but not enough.
"My lap was very good. I feel like if I was to go again I wouldn't be quicker. We were on the limit.
"No-one knows what the weather will do tomorrow. It will be a good race. I am excited for it."
