There has been no let-up in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Violent protests have erupted in parts of the country since the day the Bill was passed in Parliament. While the violent protests broke out in New Delhi first, it has spread to other parts of the country. However, Uttar Pradesh has been worst hit where at least 21 people have been killed.

Last Friday, several protesters were killed during clashes with the police and paramilitary forces. To thwart any such protests today, all the districts in the state have been put on high alert.

"I don't like violence. Whether any side left side or right side, just don't do violence. Don't destroy property, don't do that, be away from violence. 8:33 AM: The Additional District Magistrate Lucknow has started the process of recovering damages caused during violent protests against the new citizenship law earlier this month. The Additional District Magistrate will recover the damages worth around Rs 2.54 crore from 42 people, who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the anti-CAA protests that turned violent.

8:30 AM: Jamia Millia Islamia students will gherao the Uttar Pradesh Bhawan in the national capital today to agitate against the Yogi Adityanath government over the deaths during the protests in the state. According to Jamia Coordination Committee, the convener of CAA protest, the Uttar Pradesh government is "firing bullets" on the protesters agitating against the new citizenship law. Students have planned to register their protest against the state government.
