A 21-year-old female student from India was found dead near a beach in Ottawa, Canada. The deceased has been identified as Vanshika Saini, daughter of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Davinder Saini. She had been missing since April 25.
According to a social media post by an Indo-Canadian association linked by the High Commission, on April 25, Vanshika left her room around 8-9 pm to view a rental room and she didn’t return.
Pramod Chhabra, President of Hindu Community in Ottawa, wrote a letter to the Ottawa Police Service Chief Eric Stubbs stating, “Vanshika has been missing since the evening of Friday, April 25th, 2025, after leaving her residence at 7 Majestic Drive around 8-9 PM to view a rental room. Her phone was switched off at approximately 11.40 pm that night, and she missed an important exam the following day- an action completely out of character for her. Despite extensive efforts by her family and friends, there has been no contact or information about her whereabouts”.
Chhabra said the community was ‘deeply worried’ and is ‘fearing for the worst’.
According to Davinder Saini, he last spoke to his daughter on April 25.
As per media reports, the body of the girl was found from a sea beach in Ottawa near her college. The cause of her death is still unknown. Investigation is underway. On Tuesday, the Indian Embassy in Canada confirmed the death of the 21-year-old Indian student.
