The star-studded Mumbai started their SMAT 2024-25 campaign with a thrilling 26-run win over Goa in a high-scoring match. Skipper Shreyas Iyer played a sensational 57-ball knock for 130 runs to help post 250/4. Iyer then utilised six bowlers and each one of them returned with at least one wicket to restrict their rivals to 224/8.
Against Maharashtra, Mumbai registered a five-wicket win with Iyer once again top scoring for the team, 71 off 39, in the 172-run chase. Former skipper Ajinkya Rahane contributed with 34-ball 52.
But the 2022-23 champions suffered a 43-run defeat against Sanju Samson's Kerala. Powered by Salman Nizar's unbeaten 99 off 49 and Rohan Kunnummal's 48-ball 87, Kerala posted 234/5. Mumbai, in reply, could manage only 191/9 despite Rahane's 35-ball 63. Iyer made 32 off 18.
Nagaland, meanwhile, have suffered big defeats against Maharashtra (by 6 wickets), Andhra (by 8 wickets), Kerala (by 8 wickets), and the Services (by 106 matches).
Andhra lead Group E with 12 points (3 wins in 3 matches), ahead of Kerala (also 12, from 4 matches), on net run rate. Services (3 matches), Mumbai (3 matches) and Maharashtra (4 matches) have eight points each. Goa (3 matches) and Nagaland (4 matches) are winless.
In other Group E matches on Sunday, Andhra will take on Services, while Goa face Kerala.
