What Happened On Day 1

Only 20.4 overs of play was possible on the opening day of the first Test match in Durban. The rain came and the match was not resumed due to wet outfield on Wednesday. Sri Lanka asked the hosts to bat first and struck four early wickets. Captain Temba Bavuma and wicket-keeper batter Kyle Verreynne are the overnight batters. The host will resume their batting from the score of 80/4.

What Happened On Day 2

Sri Lanka was bowled out by South Africa for 42 at Kingsmead on Thursday, its lowest total in test cricket. Sri Lanka's previous worst was 71 just over 20 years ago in Kandy against Pakistan.

South Africa needed only 83 legal deliveries — 13.5 overs — to rout the Sri Lankans in their first innings. That's the lowest number of deliveries in 100 years. England routed South Africa in 75 balls in 1924.

Marco Jansen picked up seven wickets giving away just 13 runs. This gave South Africa a lead of 149 runs.

After a big lead, Proteas top order piled up runs and by the end of the second day, their lead went up to 281.
