In the West Region, three Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, and Al-Nassr have qualified for the round of 16 stage on matchday 5 leaving nine teams fighting for the remaining five spots.
As things stand teams from 4th to 8th -- Al Wasl (United Arab Emirates), Al-Sadd (Qatar), Al-Rayyan (Qatar), Esteghlal (Iran) and Al-Gharafa (Qatar) -- are in prime position to join the Saudi Pro League trio in the knock-outs.
But with three more rounds still to play, the bottom four teams -- Persepolis (Iran), Pakhtakor (Uzbekistan), Al-Shorta (Iraq), and Al Ain (United Arab Emirates) can push a late charge.
In the East Region, except probably for winless Ulsan HD (South Korea) and Central Coast Mariners (Australia) all other teams still can make the last 16.
Japan's Vissel Kobe lead the 12-team table, ahead of Gwangju (South Korea), by one point. Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan), Kawasaki Frontale (Japan), and Johor Darul Ta'zim (Malaysia) complete the top five, followed by the Chinese trio of Shanghai Shenhua, Shandong Taishan and Shanghai Port.
Buriram United (Thailand) and Pohang Steelers (South Korea) are also in the running for top eight finish despite lacklustre outings so far.
