This will be the fifth career meeting between the two. Sabalenka leads Stephens 4-0, but three of those four wins were decided in the third sets. In their most recent meeting, the scores read: 7-6(5), 6-4, at the French Open 2023. From a statistical point of view, this may be one fixture but it is one out of the top drawer considering the talent in store.
In her pre-match briefing, the 26-year-old Belarusian said of her American rival: "We had great battles in the past. I think right now she kind of like in the mode of nothing to lose. She can play really great tennis. I expect a great battle. Yeah, looking forward to facing her again."

Sabalenka got her maiden top billing at a Major and is eyeing to become the first woman to win three straight singles titles in Melbourne this century, with Swiss great Martina Hingis (1997 to 1999) the last player to achieve the feat.
Stephens reached the semi-finals in the 2013 edition but has since failed to make a mark in the season-opening Grand Slam. She failed to cross the third round in the last edition, losing to Russian Anna Kalinskaya.
Now 31, Stephens is looking to revive her career. Once a superstar in the making, she has dropped to 79th in the WTA Rankings and struggling to invoke her best on the big stage. That said, the US Open 2017 champion and French Open 2018 finalist can still shake up anyone.
