Delhi CM To Take Oath On Feb 19? Key BJP Meet To Decide Pick For Top Post Today

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to announce the pick for the post of Delhi Chief Minister soon. As per the latest reports, the winning party is expected to conduct a legislative meet on Monday in which the pick for the top post will be decided.

Citing sources, news agency PTI has reported that the new Delhi CM is expected to take oath later this week, likely on February 19 or 20. Along with the CM, the new council of ministers will also take oath this week.

The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years of opposition in the 2025 Delhi assembly elections. The party won 48 seats out of 70, ousting the Aam Aadmi Party and ending the incumbent's 10-year term in the national capital.

What Do We Know About The New Delhi CM?

As per reports, the BJP is considering picking a female candidate for the top post. If the winning party does pick a woman, Delhi will see its third female chief minister, after Congress' Sheila Dixit and AAP's Atishi.

However, some of the other frontrunners for the post are Parvesh Verma, who defeated AAP supremo and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the election from the New Delhi seat.

Former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay are also likely in the running for the post.

Furthermore, reports have stated that the party may consider Pawan Sharma, Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta and Shikha Rai for the chief minister's post.

About The Oath Taking Ceremony

Reports have further citied that the oath-taking ceremony for the new Delhi government is expected to take place at the Ramlila Maidan.

Police sources told PTI that the Ramlila Maidan is among the potential venues being considered. Other venues under consideration are the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and locations along the banks of the Yamuna river.
