Calm Returns To Border Districts In Rajasthan, Administration Lifts Red Alert

Markets open, schools and colleges are likely to open soon, no clarity on flight operations yet

Hours after a ceasefire was announced on May 10, putting an end to days of military action between India and Pakistan, the daily routine for the of Rajasthan came back to normal the day after.

On the morning of May 11, officials from border districts posted on their social media that the city must return to normal and that the restrictions imposed after the ceasefire have been lifted. People resumed their work, and markets reopened after three days.

The district administration of Barmer issued a saying the red alert has been lifted and residents can return to their normal routine.

The Sriganganagar district administration, too, put a clearly stating that the region is back to normal and the restrictions, including the shutting down of schools, have been lifted.

Similarly, the district administrations of Bikaner and Jodhpur the lifting of restrictions from Sunday onwards. The entire Jodhpur city was shut down on May 10 after the aerial attacks.

The official sources confirmed that schools and colleges, which were shut in the border districts, shall be opened soon. “As it was a Sunday, schools and colleges remained shut, but they shall be opened soon. However, as far as airports are concerned, there is no clarity on the resumption of flights,” an official at the Barmer district administration said.

On Sunday, Sudhir Chaudhary, the Superintendent of Police of Jaisalmer, told the media that the situation is getting back to normal in the district. “There is no panic in the district. People here are getting back to their normal lives. However, we have cautioned them that if they get to find any suspicious object, they should inform the police immediately,” he said.

As a precautionary measure, amid earlier security tensions, the Indian Railways had cancelled several trains operating from Barmer and Jaisalmer. Also, the flights at the airports in Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur were suspended until May 10.

The four districts of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar share an international border of approximately 1100 kilometres with neighbouring Pakistan.

Earlier, the District Collectors of Jaisalmer, Barmer and Jodhpur had set out a strict advisory cautioning people not to go out of their houses and calling for full public cooperation. For the first time since the series of attacks broke out between the two countries, on Saturday, a red alert was sounded in the desert districts during the day, restraining public movement and closing down main markets.

Following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people and India's Operation Sindoor, a strike on terror targets in Pakistan in retaliation, the border districts of Rajasthan were put on a red alert, and several measures were taken to ensure their preparedness in case of any eventualities. In the last three days, Pakistan has launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire western border, which were effectively repulsed by the Indian army, as per the statement.
