Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Dhumal was seen evacuating spectators in Dharamsala on Thursday (May 8), as India-Pakistan tensions heightened and forced the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings to be called off.
The PBKS vs DC match had started after an hour-long delay but was halted at 10.1 overs in the first innings due to a floodlight failure, with the other floodlight tower functioning properly.
Despite the authorities taking various measures to resolve the issue, a call to abandon the match was taken with the spectators asked to vacate the ground immediately.
A video on social media showed Arun Dhumal walking onto the field and requesting people to make their way towards the exit.
Cheerleader Shares 'Scary Experience'
A video from the match also resurfaced on social media, with a cheerleader sharing her distress at the venue after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals, IPL 2025 match was called-off.
The cheerleader took to social media and recorded her experience, which she described as "scary".
“The whole stadium was evacuated in the middle of the game. It was very scary,” she said in a video that is going viral.
“Everyone was screaming that there were bombs coming. It still is very scary. We want to really leave Dharamsala. I hope IPL people are going to look after us. I don’t know why I’m not crying; maybe I’m still in shock.”
The airline services are shut given the current India-Pakistan tensions, so the players, coaches, cheerleaders and broadcasting crew are stuck in Dharamsala. However, the BCCI is arranging for a special train for the evacuation of the players and other members.
