The eldest son of the legendary Pandit Ram Marathe, Pandit Sanjay Ram Marathe, has passed away. The renowned classical singer and harmonium maestro died at a hospital in Thane, Maharashtra. The news of his demise was confirmed by his family on Monday, as per a report in PTI. He was 68. 

The legendary singer suffered a severe heart attack and was admitted to a private hospital in Thane, where he breathed his last on Sunday night, December 15, according to his family.

Pandit Ram Marathe's contribution to Indian classical music is exceptional. He is known for mastering the harmonium and his soulful songs. 

He also has made immense contributions to Marathi theatre. With his younger brother, Mukund Marathe, Pandit Sanjay Marathe revived and staged the famous Marathi musical play Sangeet Mandarmala as part of their father's centenary.

Pandit Sanjay Marathe is survived by his wife, a son and granddaughter.
