South Korean prosecutors on Sunday evening indicted the impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol over his imposition of martial law, AP reported citing Yonhap news agency.

The Korean news agency reported that the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office indicted Yoon over rebellion in connection with his martial law decree on December 3, which plunged the country into massive political turmoil.

Yoon was earlier impeached and arrested over the martial law decree.

This move has made Yoon the first sitting president in South Korea라이브 바카라 history to be indicted while in detention.

The indictment comes one day before Yoon라이브 바카라 detention was set to expire. The president was detained by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on January 15, after his controversial declaration of martial law on December 3. Yoon was formally arrested on January 19.

The CIO, which had led the investigation into Yoon, transferred the case to the prosecution last week, as it lacks the authority to indict a sitting president. Senior prosecutors from across the country met earlier on Sunday to discuss the next steps in the case, despite not having had the opportunity to directly question Yoon.

Prosecutors stated that, after reviewing the evidence, they concluded that an indictment was warranted. Yoon faces allegations of conspiring with then-Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and others to incite an insurrection by declaring martial law. He is also accused of deploying military forces to Parliament in a bid to prevent lawmakers from rejecting the martial law decree.

The prosecution had initially sought to extend Yoon라이브 바카라 detention for further questioning, but a Seoul court rejected their request on Saturday, marking the second time the court denied an extension.

Under South Korean law, suspects must be released if not indicted within the detention period.
