Shortly after farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal agreed to take medical aid, 121 protesting farmers called off their hunger strike. This development also comes after the Union government agreed to meet the protesting farmers in February 2025.

Due to the meeting with the Union government and medical aid for Dallewal, farmers are reportedly reconsidering the date for their Dilli Chalo March.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the march to Delhi will be resumed on January 21, 2025, by a jatha of 101 farmers. This was confirmed by leader Sarvan Singh Pandher while speaking to reporters at the Shambhu border.

However, the plan is now under reconsideration. As per a report by the Indian Express, a plan to go ahead of the march to Delhi will be finalised on Monday.

Farmers' Protest: Dallewal Accepts Aid

Fasting farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal agreed to take medical aid after a group of representatives from the Centre invited the protesting farmers for talks next month.

Dallewal, who is also a cancer patient, has been on hunger strike since November 26, 2024. The farmer leader had been demanding legal guarantees for MSP and other requirements of the farmers.

On Saturday, Dallewal accepted medical aid but maintained he would continue his fast-unto-death.

Farmers from Punjab and Haryana started their hunger strike on January 15 and 17, respectively, in solidarity with Jagjit Singh Dallewal.
