CM And Deputy CMs Say 'Everyone Deserves A Chance' As Former Ministers Get Upset
Out of the 39 ministers inducted, there are 16 new faces, while 10 former ministers were excluded. Some of the prominent leaders who couldn't find a place in the new council of ministers include BJP's Sudhir Mungantiwar, senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, and Shiv Sena's Abdul Sattar.
Expressing dissatisfaction over losing spot at the cabinet, Ramdas Athawale told ANI, "Republican Party of India (A) performed well in the Vidhan Sabha elections. We held meetings with Devendra Fadnavis, and he promised to allocate at least one ministry to us. However, in this expansion, there is no representation from RPI(A). We demand at least one ministry in the Cabinet."
According to NDTV, Shiv Sena leader Narendra Bhondekar has resigned as the deputy leader of the party and its coordinator for Vidarbha. However the MLA is not resigning from the assembly.
Addressing a press conference after the cabinet was expanded on the eve of the winter session of the Maharashtra legislature, Fadnavis said Mahayuti allies have agreed to conduct a "performance audit" of ministers during their tenure.
While Fadnavis didn't mention any timeline, Deputy CM and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde said the ministers of his party will get two-and-a-half years and those who perform will progress.
Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar said "non-performers" can be replaced in two-and-a-half months also.
Hours before the cabinet expansion ceremony, Pawar said that some of those who took oath would have a tenure of two-and-a-half-years, underlining constraints in accommodating aspirations of hopefuls.
"Everyone feels like getting an opportunity to become a minister. However, the ministerial berths remain limited while everyone deserves a chance," Pawar added.
The Mahayuti alliance saw a landslide win at the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, securing 230 out of the 288 available seats. The BJP emerged as the largest party, winning 132 seats, while Shiv Sena and the NCP followed with 57 and 41 seats, respectively. Following the election results, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister on December 5, with former CM Eknath Shinde and NCP라이브 바카라 Ajit Pawar appointed as his deputies.
