Following Mahayuti's landslide victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections, the cabinet has been sworn in. The Mahayuti cabinet oath-taking comes weeks after BJP's Devendra Fadnavis was named the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Along with Fadnavis, NCP's Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde were sworn in as the deputy chief ministers of the state government.
Mahayuti Cabinet Takes Oath
The cabinet expansion of the BJP-led Mahayuti government took place on on Sunday evening at Raj Bhavan in Nagpur. The ceremony began at 4:30 PM.
Speaking to news agency PTI, a senior BJP leader has stated that around 30 to 32 ministers are expected to take oath at the ceremony. In the Maharashtra state government, the cabinet can have a total of 43 ministers, including the chief minister.
Who's On The List?
The final list of cabinet ministers has not been released. However, citing sources, PTI has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to receive the maximum amount of cabinet berths as it was the party with the maximum votes.
BJP is expected to get 20 to 21 ministerial berths, followed by 11 to 12 berths of Shinde Sena and 9 to 10 for Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party.
Sources have also said that the BJP will retain the home ministry but is expected to cede the housing ministry to the Shinde Sena.
Furthermore, sources have also added that the two BJP allies -- Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) -- will retain the portfolios they had in the previous Mahayuti government except for one additional ministry to the Shiv Sena.
