Treesa-Gayatri Vs Liu-Tan Highlights, All England Open QFs: Indians Lose To World No. 2 Pair In Straight Games

The women's doubles match between Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning is third on Court 1. Currently, the first match, a mixed doubles encounter between China and Malaysia, is ongoing and will be followed by Lakshya Sen's all-important quarter-final. It is not to be for Lakshya Sen. The 23-year-old goes down 10-21, 16-21 to Li Shi Feng to bow out of the All England Open in the quarter-finals. And it's now time for Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand to take the court, as their match is up next.

Right. So both sets of players are on court and currently doing the customary pre-match knocking. It will surely be an uphill battle for the Indians against the world number 2 pair. Let's see how they fare.

The match gets underway with the Chinese pair serving first, and they take the first point with an unforced error from Gayatri.

The Indians are taking the fight to the Chinese in the early exchanges. They have opened up a 7-4 lead in the first game, courtesy some effective drops and well-timed smashes from mid-court and long-court.

The Chinese have entirely transformed the game, and now lead 16-12. Treesa and Gayatri trying their best to hang in there but Liu and Tan are just too sharp at the net to miss out on anything even remotely loose.

Liu and Tan consolidate their lead to take the first game 21-14. Gayatri appeared to have some trouble with her knee at game point, but it was sprayed and she returned to the court. The onus now on the Indians to turn this around.

Liu and Tan have raced away to a 7-3 lead in the second game. The scoreline suggests their dominance, but it has not been so straightforward. Long rallies have ensued, and the Indians have fought hard before eventually succumbing to the evident pedigree of the young Chinese pair. Treesa and Gayatri have not given up yet, though.

The Chinese duo leads 11-5 at the mid-game interval. The on-air commentator sums up the scenario succinctly: "There may be a way back for Treesa and Gayatri, but at the moment, it is hard to see it."

It appears to just be a matter of time now for Liu and Tan's victory. The Chinese duo leads 18-8 in the second game and is just three points away from marching into the semi-finals.

And that's that. Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning take the first match point available to seal the deal in straight games, 14-21 and 10-21. It was quite a sobering experience for Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who would no doubt have learnt a lot from this match. For now, their campaign at the All England Open 2025 Championships ends in the quarter-finals and with that, India's challenge at the prestigious tournament is also over.
