The Pat Cummins-led SRH won the toss and, for the first time in this edition, a captain chose to bat first. The right-arm leg-break, Zeeshan Ansari, made his IPL debut.

Mitchell Starc opened the bowling attack of DC, and thanks to a sharp fielding effort from Vipraj Nigam, SRH lost the wicket of their opener batter Abhishek Sharma in the first over.

Starc dismissed Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy in his next over. Mukesh Kumar also bowled economically from the other end. DC captain Axar Patel gave him another over, and he got the wicket of Travis Head inside the powerplay.

But Aniket Verma and Heinrich Klaasen added 77 runs for the fifth wicket to rebuild the SRH innings. Verma went on to hit his maiden IPL half-century.

Mohit Sharma broke the partnership when Nigam took a fine running catch at the deep point. But Verma kept on hitting. He made 74 off just 41 balls, including five fours and six sixes. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed him in the 16th over.

Mitchell Starc picked up the wickets of Wiaan Mulder and Harshal Patel to complete his five-wicket haul. Kuldeep took three wickets in the match and helped restrict SRH to just 163 runs.

Zeeshan Ansari, the debutant, picked up all three wickets for DC. Tristan Stubbs (21 not out) and Abishek Porel (34 not out) remained unbeaten till the end and helped their team win the match in the 16th over. Starc was named Player of the Match for his bowling figures of 3.4-0-35-5.

With two out of two wins, DC are placed second on the points table, whereas SRH are at sixth place with two losses in three games. Now, SRH will face KKR in their next match at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, 3 April. DC will face CSK at Chepauk on Saturday, 5 April.
