Durban Super Giants captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss and chose to bat first. The team posted a challenging total of 209/4 in their 20 overs, with contributions from Bryce Parsons (47), Breetzke (33), and Kane Williamson (60*). Quinton de Kock (15) and Heinrich Klaasen (2) made brief appearances, but the top and middle order were dominant, driven by fluent strokeplay throughout the innings.
Pretoria Capitals responded strongly, driven by explosive knocks from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (89) and Will Jacks (64), putting the Capitals on course for a win in their South Africa T20 League campiagn opener.
However, despite a strong start, the Super Giants mounted a comeback with disciplined bowling.
The turning point came when the partnership was broken and Gurbaz and Jacks both fell, and pressure mounted on the chasing side.
Chris Woakes (2/42) and Keshav Maharaj (1/39) struck key blows, while Naveen-ul-Haq's (1/35) brilliant final over sealed the victory.
Pretoria Capitals faltered at the final hurdle, finishing with 207/6. The match had the crowd on the edge of their seats as Durban's bowlers held their nerve to defend the total. Despite a valiant effort, DSG emerged victorious against all odds, securing a thrilling 2-run win.
Nevertheless, Gurbaz's scintillating knock earned him the Player of the Match honor, but it was the Super Giants’ tight bowling and composure under pressure that sealed their 2-run victory.
The two teams have been previous finalists of the South Africa T20 League. In the final of the inaugural edition, the Wayne Parnell-led Pretoria Capitals lost to the Sunrisers by four wickets. Last February, Keshav Maharaj's Super Giants suffered an 89-run defeat in the title clash.
In their next fixtures, the two teams will clash again against each other at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on January 12, 2025.
